Exergen TemporalScanner: For my piece of mind

exergen temporalscanner Exergen TemporalScanner: For my piece of mind

*Update: Congratulations to Shannon, our winner!

As a parent of a young child, I know how important it is to watch for a rising temperature.  When my daughter was just about 5 months old, she became very ill with Rotavirus (severe flu-like symptoms and diarrhea).  We were taking her temperature every half hour to forty-five minutes.  Believe me, when you have a very sick child, like she was, inserting a rectal thermometer into her very tiny and sore little bottom was no picnic.  I wish I would have had a thermometer like this two and a half years ago.

Now with the Exergen TemporalScanner, it’s so easy to check her temperature with just a swipe of her forehead.  Of course I was skeptical at first but in time, found out first-hand that it does work, as we have used it a number of times.  Here is some more information on the scanner:

The TemporalScanner Thermometer is a totally non-invasive system with advanced infrared technology providing maximum ease of use with quick, consistently accurate measurements. Advanced, patented technology measures temperatures with a gentle stroke across the forehead.

The TemporalScanner Thermometer has been clinically tested for accuracy compared to rectal thermometers and temperature sensors inserted in the heart during course of patient treatment and accepted for use in major hospitals, making it the ideal thermometer for use with newborns, infants, children or adults.

The TemporalScanner has patented software, providing arterial heat balance. This unique process determines temperature by accurately measuring the balance between the tissues warming from arterial blood and tissues cooling (warming) caused by heat loss (gain) to the environment.

*The above three paragraphs were taken from the Exergen website.

Anyone with a young child knows how hard it is to get them to agree to have their temperature taken or to take medicine, for that matter.  My husband and I sat down with our little girl and we each used the TemporalScanner on each other, so she could see how easy, quick and painless it was.  Now, she ocassionally asks for us to take her temperature.  :)   I like products that make this job easier!

We’re giving away one EXERGEN TemporalScanner to a ParentSphere reader.  To enter, leave a comment on this post (comment section below) and let us know if you have ever used or seen one of these scanners in use before and what were your inital thoughts on the thermometer?  If you haven’t, that’s ok, you may still enter.  Winner will be chosen randomly.  Last day to enter giveaway is Friday, September 26th.  The winner will be notified via email the morning of the 27th (check your spam folder!) and we will update this post after the winner has been chosen.

  119. They used one of these at our doctor’s office. It seems so much easier to use than our standard thermometer.

    119

    120
  121. I heard a commercial for this type of thermometer. I always worry about the accuracy.

    121
  122. This is exactly the one I already use, i’d love to get it for my sister who is due with her first baby in January!

  138. My children’s pediatrician uses this. It is very cool.

    139
  140. I’ve never used them before, but I’ve been thinking of getting one for baby #2. I get so sick of checking temps in the ear - having it not be accurate and then having to do it 5 times and take an average.

This would be so much easier!

    140

    150
  151. Both of my boys have had febrile seizures, so getting a quick and accurate temperature reading is crucial. This would be a wonderful item for our house since I know they work well. My son was in the hospital for 4 days in February after he stopped breathing and they used it constantly to check his fever status. Thanks for the great giveaway!

    151
  152. I would really love to give this a try

    160
  161. I have never even seen this kind of thermometer before!
Very cool. I’d love to try it out when my son is sick.

    161
  162. Wonderful, needed product! I’ve never seen these before.

    162
  163. I haven’t ever seen one like this that is just on the forehead. Many years ago we had gone through a couple of the in the ear type, but we found that you had to get them aimed in the ear canal just the right way for them to be accurate. With a wiggly baby or toddler that isn’t always an easy thing to do. This seems like it would be much easier to use and more accurate.

    Thanks!

I’d love to have one of these for my gdrandaughter she’s 2 and hard to get her temp. this is great.

    168
  169. I worked at a hospital and when I first saw it used, I thought, Uh what in the world is that thing! It was amazing to see how unintrusive it was and how easy it was to use! I have been wanting one for use at home.

  170. Opera Mommy says:

This would be so great to have!

    170

    171
  172. Alan Huestis says:

I’ve seen them used at Whole Foods, walk in coolers, freezers etc.to check the temp. of products.

    172
  173. I have seen them in use in the children’s hospital that my daughter was in when she had her open heart surgery. I really wanted one them because it is much easier than trying to take it under her arm! I refuse to take her temperature rectally it freaks me out!

    173
  174. These things are phenomenal. Have my temp taken, orally, on a regular basis and would really prefer to have one of these used each time.

    174
  175. I have never seen one of these before. After reading about it, I think every home should have one. When you are sick you don’t want to be bothered and this is a quick way to check temp. without a fuss.

    175
  176. I’ve never seen these in use, but when we were at Babies R Us, my husband insisted we added it to our baby registry! To win it would be even more fun :)

    176
  177. I vaguely remember having seen one of these, and I’d love to have one. Our ear one doesn’t work because Suzi jerks her head away, and I just refuse to use the rectal one.

    184
  185. I have heard of these and would love to have one for my family. It’s SO hard for a young child who is ill deal with other types of thermometers. My son is prone to ear infections and doesn’t tolerate the ear or oral versions very well.

    185
  186. I haven’t used one before, but I would love to try it.

    186

  192. I haven’t used a thermometer like this before but I can imagine how much easier it is to use than traditional ones!

Our son had a mild fever a few days ago and taking his temp was a PAIN! Our thermometer is TERRIBLE. It’s one of those that come in the American Red cross safety kits. It’s super slow and jumps all over the place! HELP!

    192
  193. I had my temperature taken with one of these and thougt it was a great thing to have at home.

  196. I love the look of this thermometer. We have the kind that goes into the ear canal but it is hard to get a good reading especially on a baby. The Temporal Scanner looks so easy to use and would come in very handy for the whole family.

    196
  197. Jennifer C. says:

I have never used one but our Ped. office uses one. We have an old ear one and it is probably long overdue for replacing.

  206. I’ve never seen one of these used but it sounds like a wonderful idea. An easy way to get an accurate read without creating further agitation for the patient!

    206
  207. My doctors office has one of these and I have been so thankful. We received an ear thermometer and my kids hate it!! These are so easy and he let’s the nurse use it on him. That is worth its weight in gold.

    224
  225. I have never seen one of these. My son hates getting his temperature taken so this one would be wonderful to own.

    225
  226. OMG! I have seen this at the hospital and they were explaining to me about “core” temperatures and how important it is. My daughter doens’t project fevers like you or I, they don’t show up on those ear thermometers or such. So this is the ONLY way to get her temp when she has a fever… You can tell she does because she turns beat red, but only the ER can tell me how high it is. This would come in SO handy here! I would LOVE to win this…

  262. I’ve never seen a Temporal Scanner of this type. I do remember some years ago strips that you could put on the forehead that would change numbers much like a mood ring but they weren’t accurate most of the time. Its wonderful they have developed this technology since its much safer the old mercury thermometers. Hopefully with time the price will become more affordable with higher demand.
